Tie-Dyed Milk experiment!!!!!

Today we did art, science and writing all at the same time!!!

We conducted an experiment to create Tie-Dyed milk. We began with a tray of milk. We learnt that milk has a property known as surface tension. This tension is created from the forces of the liquid molecules.

When we first put the dye into the milk the dye just sat on the surface. That's because the dye is less dense than milk, so it floats to the surface.
.
Then the magic began when we dropped the soap into the liquid. The soap reduced the surface tension of the milk by dissolving the fat molecules.

To finish off, we wrote down our observations then  analysed our hypothesis.

After we had learnt the science behind it, it was time to create our art! We used different dyes to create patterns. Some of us thought they looked like Maori Koru. Some of us even went on to write similes about the art we created.

So much learning in one afternoon!!
